“We considered the investment in solar to be very good, financially as well as environmentally. With the federal and state tax credits, we were able to turn money we would have otherwise paid the government in taxes, into an asset on our property,” owner Kelan Emery said in a press release. “The combination of an array that powers the law office, and additionally the new electric hybrid Volt helps us reduce our fossil fuel use. Since Taos’ electricity comes from coal, that reduction is a benefit, and so is the 450 gallons of gas per year we are replacing by burning sunshine for a vehicle primarily used for commuting to work.”
