UPON Moree Plains Shire Council discussing their integrated planning and reporting documents at Thursday’s meeting Cr John Tramby has been left asking about the things that are not included in the documents. 

The Community Strategic Plan, Delivery and Operational Plan, Long Term Financial Plan, Asset Management Strategy and the Council Workforce Plan were all discussed and changes were finalised. 

Cr Tramby waited until the end to speak against the discussion and changes arguing that there was only one crime prevention project that was included in any of the plans for the next four years. 

“Basically we adopted this Crime Prevention Plan in 2011 to help reduce crime by 20 per cent. However, after viewing recent figure from March 2012 to March 2013 I have found that the numbers in our shire have risen to enormous rates,” he said. 

Cr Tramby told fellow councillors that the only project he could see budgeted was the CCTV and increased lighting in crime ‘hot spots’ around the town, but questioned if it was enough. 

“Since March 2012 Moree Shire has had 453 break-ins and 141 stolen cars. Inverell since March 2012 has had 14 cars stolen. For every one stolen there,Choose from thousands of LED Dashboard Lamp, even those hard-to-find bulbs, for your home or business. we had 10 stolen here,” Cr Tramby said. 

“At the end of 2011 Moree was the second highest in the state for three categories of serious crimes and since then,It is also known as LED Dome / Reading Lamp Wholesalers, LED daytime running lamps. we have risen to the second highest in six categories.” 

He said the council needed to realise how high our crime was and start doing more to solve the problems. For Cr Tramby, the three problems are, the lack of education, employment and training. 

In a meeting a number of months ago, Cr Tramby wanted to see the bar raised in the Crime Prevention Plan from 20 per cent to 50 per cent over a period of five years, but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to speak about it as no-one seconded his motion. 

“At the end of December 2011 we were two eighths times the state average for serious crimes. At the end of 2012 we were three times the state average, which is equivalent to the CBD of Sydney.LED ceiling lamp is a kind of solar panel cells that is installed inside the room. Moree Plains Shire Council general manager, David Aber, said council officers were currently working on a major project in the upgrade of street lighting and roll out of CCTV in identified ‘hot spots’ throughout Moree. 

The development of this project occurred in close consultation with the Attorney General’s office and is funded by both their office and MPSC. 

“This is a huge achievement given that the plan was only adopted one year ago,” Mr Aber said. 

He said a number of the larger programs within the Crime Prevention Plan were not budgeted for as the aim had always been to use the plan to attract funding which,We may contact you if more information is needed to locate a LED downlight.Our led spotlight and solar phone chargers are uniquely designed, high-quality and low-cost. without an adopted Crime Prevention Plan, would otherwise be unavailable to the council. 

It is important to remember that Local Government is not the lead agency in crime prevention. Policing is a State Government function and council’s role is to advocate and liaise with the relevant agencies. 

The Youth Council partners with the Moree PCYC to deliver a range of their programs, and the CCTV/street lighting project is another; and monthly visits for children from Mungindi, Toomelah and Boggabilla to attend the Moree PCYC is yet another. 

“Council has established, through the Crime Prevention Committee, a partnership with the Chamber of Commerce to roll out a program which involves the dressing up of vacant shop fronts so they have an improved appearance and to assist with minimising vandalism to these empty shops,” Mr Aber said.
